Road bikes of Canyon's professional teams

We take a look at the road bikes of Movistar, Alpecin-Deceuninck and CANYON//SRAM Zondacrypto.

Canyon's fleet of road bikes has seen many victories over the years. From the Ultimate's not-so-humble beginnings in the early 2000s to Annemiek's historic win at the first Tour de France Femmes in the summer of 2022.

Over the same period, we've tested the limits of the bikes at the top of the sport. With the help of our athletes, we're lucky to be one of the most innovative brands in cycling. Our professional riders have shared their knowledge and experience to test new manufacturing technology, feedback on our latest innovations and assist us in the wind tunnel to hone our aerodynamics.

Performance, innovation, expertise

Riders can't succeed without bikes and our bikes can't succeed without riders. This symbiotic relationship is one of the reasons our partnerships have been so long-standing. Honing excellence takes years of commitment and we're proud to have some of the best riders in the peloton taking our bikes to victory. As a result of years of development and success, high performance is part of our DNA.

Which racing bikes do Movistar Team use?

Since 2014, Spanish team Movistar has been riding the Canyon Aeroad, Canyon Ultimate and Canyon Speedmax road bikes. All of these bikes have seen huge leaps in technology over the years. From aluminium to advanced carbon builds and the rise of disc brakes, Movistar has ridden them all.

We partnered with the women's team from its inception in 2018. In its first year, the team took a number of top ten victories cementing their reputation as a team on the rise.

The women's team were greatly strengthened after signing Annemiek van Vleuten. She and her teammates were unstoppable from 2021-2023. Annemiek tasted overall victory at the 2022 Tour de France Femmes and 2022 Giro Donne, the 2023 La Vuelta Femenina and 2023 edition of the Giro Donne once again. She also won the 2022 Olympic silver medal and Movistar's first monument victory at the Tour of Flanders in 2021. The team’s current roster, a mix of exciting young riders and experienced racers, continues to challenge at the highest level of the sport.

Which racing bikes do Alpecin-Deceuninck use?

The team of Mathieu van der Poel has been racing on Canyon road bikes since 2018. It doesn't stop there either. Alpecin-Deceuninck is a multi-discipline team also specialising in cyclocross. You can see them training and racing on our signature cyclocross bike, the Inflite, throughout the winter season.

We were lucky enough to provide the famous Tour de France yellow Aeroad in 2021 as Mathieu took the coveted yellow jersey during his race debut. He also rode a beautiful, custom pink Speedmax during the 2022 Giro d'Italia time trial stage. After winning the coveted rainbow jersey at the 2023 World Road Championship, Matthieu rode a special edition Aeroad featuring the famous rainbow stripes. In addition to his Grand Tour stage victories, Mattheiu has won a number of monuments atop the Aeroad, including multiple editions of Paris-Roubaix, the Tour of Flanders, and most recently Milan San Remo for the second time. Fellow Alpecin-Deceuninck riders Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado, Puck Pieterse and Jasper Philipsen have also ridden the Inflite and Aeroad to victories on the road and CX course.

Now firmly a UCI WorldTeam, Alpecin-Deceuninck goes from strength to strength. As we continue the 2025 season, we're looking forward to seeing which finish lines their Canyon bikes will cross first.

The road bikes of CANYON-SRAM Zondacrypto

Our partnership continues with CANYON-SRAM Zondacrypto as they take on a multi-sport calendar. Since 2016, this team has dazzled in the women's professional peloton. As the team's naming sponsor and bike partner, they have repeatedly reached the podium, proudly showing what's possible when top skill meets premium equipment.

The team has had success in the form of Grand Tour victories, Classics wins, national championships and monument podiums over the years. Most recently Katarzyna Niewiadoma sealed overall victory at the 2024 Tour de France Femmes aboard a special edition yellow Aeroad. Road captain Tiffany Cromwell has taken on a number of gravel races (riding a Canyon Grail, our flagship gravel bike) and even tried her skill at the Valtteri Bottas Duathlon. We're excited to see what's next for this dedicated team.

CANYON//SRAM Generation's race bikes

Canyon's commitment to increasing diversity in cycling was matched when CANYON//SRAM Racing announced its development team, Generation. The unique application process to join the squad was hugely successful attracting a final team of riders from Namibia, Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Jamaica, Paraguay, Germany and Malaysia. Now in its third year, the team is dedicated to helping talented female athletes from diverse backgrounds break new ground, reach the pinnacle of professional cycling, and shape the future of the sport.

The CANYON//SRAM Generation bikes complement the Women's World Tour team's kit and livery with a burst of purple distinguishing between the two.

Which road bikes do the pros ride in the mountains?

There's no hard and fast rule for which bike is the best in the mountains. Of our two racing bikes, the Aeroad and Ultimate are commonly found on the tarmac of mountain passes around the world.

Riders choose their bike based on personal preference. Both the Aeroad and Ultimate are great climbing bikes with almost identical geometry.

Which racing bike do the pros use for time trials?

The pros ride time trial bikes during time trial races or stages. Our teams use the Speedmax TT, which is based off the triathlon bike of the same name.

This bike is optimised for aerodynamics and features a unique cockpit consisting of aerobars. The geometry is aggressive and is a pure speed machine.

Are professional racing bikes different from "normal" racing bikes?

The UCI rules mandate that bikes used in the pro peloton must be available to purchase to the public.

The exact specification of a pro rider’s bike might differ from the bike you’re able to buy in the Canyon web shop due to team sponsorship agreements.

Bottom line is yes, you can race the very same bikes the pros ride.
