Fatherhood
During the summer of 2024, Troy became a father. In gravity sports, parenthood can be a delicate moment for athletes. Some begin to feel the risk more keenly, they worry about coming home safely to their families each weekend. Others take it is extra motivation, they want to win for their families and show their kids what is possible. After missing the middle part of this season to be at home for the birth of his daughter, Troy proved that he is among the latter group. He closed the season in epic fashion, winning the final race in Mont Saint Anne, Canada with a stunning show of speed and control on one of the hardest tracks of the year.
“It was a bit surreal in a way, I knew I could do it, but we had just had a kid and I hadn't trained much, but I've ridden Mont Saint Anne in almost every condition so I knew that you could still go fast in the wet there. And I had nothing to lose, so I just went for it. It's been difficult to be overseas at this stage, because you just want to spend time with your kid and watch them grow up, but there's a lot of training that needs to be done too. It motivates me, I want to do well and show her that you can still do great things when things are hard and life is really busy.”
