A men’s mountain bike tailored to you

Hardtail or full-suspension? Which bike for which purpose? How do the sizes, the material and the groupsets differ? We'll show you how to find your new mountain bike - without compromise.

Men’s hardtail mountain bikes

Hardtail mountain bikes are bikes with only front suspension. Their strengths lie in off-the-beaten-track adventures and everyday mountain biking. Their front suspension is perfect for rides on medium-difficult terrain.

Hardtails are available as entry-level models and are much cheaper than their full-suspension counterparts. Canyon also has high-end hardtails with electronic gears, premium rigidity and feather-light carbon components designed for elite level racing. These men’s MTBs will make your heart race!

Men’s full-suspension mountain bikes

Mountain bikes with a suspension fork and rear suspension are called full-suspension bikes. This men’s mountain bike is designed for more extreme terrain. It’ll take on steep climbs in rugged terrain with ample traction. This bike is at home on descents, rocks and rough terrain and smooths out the obstacles beneath the tyres. With the innovative Triple Phase Suspension, you’ll have no problem taking on any trail. Riding comfort and traction are guaranteed on Canyon wheels.

You’ll find the right men’s full-suspension mountain bike for your needs. Choose from the entire range of short-travel bikes, cross-country and all-round trail bikes, enduro bikes, and dirt bikes.

Which men’s mountain bike do you need?

Your riding style and intended use will decide which men’s MTB is right for you:

  • You want action on the mountain – climb uphill and race downhill. Dive into an adventure with our enduro mountain bikes.
  • Versatile in use from everyday use to mountain tours: our trail bikes are fun to ride.
  • A fast race or power hour on the trails? No problem for cross-country mountain bikes.
  • Spectacular jumps, racing over demanding terrain: equip yourself with a downhill bike.
  • Huge jumps at high speed and with tricky landings? Then take a look at our dirt jump bikes.
  • Snow, sand and scree? fat bikes are the tool for the job.

How do wheel sizes differ?

Men’s mountain bikes with 29 inch wheels ensure stability and safety. They offer less rolling resistance, but they weight slightly more than bikes with 27.5 inch wheels.

27.5 inch wheels are suitable for riders who want a more playful and agile bike. They’re highly manoeuvrable. We also spec some of our smaller frame men’s mountain bikes with 27.5 inch wheels to stop the toe overlap. Mullet bikes have a 29 inch wheel at the front and a 27.5 inch wheel at the back. They combine the advantages of both wheel sizes in one bike.

  • Speed and smoothness: 29 inch wheels
  • Agile and playful: 27.5 inches front and rear
  • Combination of both: mullet bike

Frame materials on men’s mountain bikes

Carbon frames offer more freedom in the design process as well as saving weight. With carbon you can ride faster while on board a stiff and agile bike. Ensuro and trail bikes feel more direct with a carbon frame.

Aluminium frames are proven, stable and cheaper than carbon frames. In terms of handling, aluminium is considered slightly inferior to carbon but it’s a much more durable material when things get rough.

Groupsets for men’s mountain bikes

Manufacturers Shimano and SRAM offer a wide range of quality and high specifications for the gears on your MTB. With a mountain bike, you choose the groupset based on the type of riding.

A special feature of the mountain bike groupsets is the clutch derailleur technology. The increased spring tension on the cage keeps the chain taut therefore preventing the chain from slapping the chainstays in the event of impact. This technology prevents damage to the frame.

On many mountain bikes, the components have to withstand extreme conditions. These special requirements drive the development of groupsets and components across the entire bicycle market. Trends like disc brakes on road bikes hail from mountain biking.
