The Canyon story

Want to know a bit more about Canyon? We’d like to tell the story of Roman Arnold, because it is a special one, driven by that unique passion that connects and inspires all riders.

Imagine you're a 14-year-old boy sitting in your parents' car on a summer holiday in Italy, on a route across the Alps. Going up a high mountain pass, even the cars are struggling to make it up, and that’s when you see them. Road cyclists, flying up the climb in a magnificent display of elegance and power. Instantly, you are enraptured, and you know one thing – you want to do that too. When you get home, you get your first road bike, and later, you start racing. And your father, a savvy businessman, has a great idea: while you’re racing, he sells accessories and components from a small blue trailer to other racers right by the course. And not just any components – high-grade Italian parts that he specially imported because at that time, they weren’t available where you race.

And from this beginning came an almost unimaginable success story.

The new business is so successful that, before soon, you need a garage to store all your stock. You found Radsport Arnold and open a small shop. Then you open a bigger shop. Soon, you’re known country-wide. When you take over your father's business, you make a brave decision: you become a manufacturer, rather than just a retailer. You found Canyon. And you decide – like your father back at the start – to sell directly to the customer. Via the Internet. A daring move, but turn of the millennium was the perfect time: all-in-all, you have a good feeling for working with the right people and making the right decisions at the right time. Your company grows and prospers. And in 2019, Canyon arrives in Switzerland.

And we’re delighted to be here!
