Taxes, customs and exports
Depending on where you order your bike to, you may have to pay extra taxes and customs charges not displayed on the website.
-
Orders to the EU, UK, Switzerland, Norway, Japan and Singapore: you won’t have to pay any additional taxes or customs fees after you make your order. The price displayed on the website is the final amount you pay for your products.
-
Orders to any other country: we won’t include VAT or customs duties in the final price at the time of purchase. This means you may need to pay these additional charges upon delivery, depending on your country’s regulations. Please inform yourself about these potential charges before completing your purchase.
You can export your bike from any EU country. However, for us to approve your VAT refund, you have to fulfil all of the following conditions:
-
You must originally order your bike to either Germany, Denmark, Belgium, or the Netherlands. For orders originally shipped to the Netherlands you need to follow a special procedure.
Contact our local office for more information. -
You must export the goods carrying them in your own personal luggage. You cannot send them with a postal company, shipping agent or similar or transport them in a separate transit vehicle like a lorry.
-
You must export the goods before the end of the third calendar month after delivery.
To claim your VAT refund, please return to us the following:
-
Your original Canyon order invoice (not your order confirmation), with the billing address matching your passport or equivalent ID, and the delivery address differing from the billing address.
-
A customs clearance stamp, with proof of date and location, from the EU country you exported the goods listed on your Canyon invoice. Please be aware that Canyon cannot provide pre-filled customs forms.
-
Details of the bank account you want us to send your refund to.
-
Proof that you live outside the EU. If customs doesn’t confirm this on their own, you’ll need to send us official documents that prove it, like a copy of your residence permit or passport.
Be sure to make copies for your own records. The refund will be processed after the 30-day return period has expired.

We work with Global Blue for VAT refund on goods purchased or collected from our showroom. If you’ve placed an online order for collection in person, you’ll need to enter an official non-EU residential address as stated on your passport or official ID.
Once you are registered, follow the steps below
-
Step 1 - When you collect the order, you need to ask for a receipt, a tax free cheque and a postage paid envelope.
-
Step 2- Send your receipt, cheque, and valid customs stamp to Global Blue.
-
Step 3 - You will be refunded to the account you specified.
When importing a bike into a non-EU country you are responsible for checking the customs regulations and the amount of duties or tax to be paid. These costs differ depending on the country you’re in and the overall value of the bike being imported.
We ship orders with UPS and DHL Freight. In most cases, they will take care of the entire process and will invoice you for the total amount. If the delivery company doesn’t offer this service in your country, you will need to contact your local customs office.
If you are sending your bike to us for servicing within the warranty period, we cover all import charges. If the bike is out of warranty, you will be charged the customs duties and import sales tax.
If the bike is being returned to a Canyon Service Centre within the EU, it’s possible to get duty-free clearance if you meet the following criteria.
-
The bike was delivered outside the EU in the last three years.
-
You have proof of the original export (export receipt or invoice with customs stamp).
-
The bike is being shipped from the same country it was delivered to.
If you live in Switzerland and want to pick your bike up from the showroom in Koblenz, you’ll need to register with Global Blue. This is a ‘cross-border’ service that entitles you to a full VAT refund on your purchase. VAT can only be refunded if you follow this process. This is a voluntary service and no legal claim exists to this service.
-
Step 1 - When you collect your bike, you’ll be given a receipt, a tax free cheque and a postage paid envelope.
-
Step 2 - Send your receipt, cheque, and valid customs stamp to Global Blue.
-
Step 3 - After 4 to 6 weeks you will be refunded to the account or credit card specified.
