For the Canyon Speedmax CF model with a V21 Aerostem, we discovered rare instances where the fork steerer tube can crack or break, leading to a detachment of the cockpit assembly (stem and handlebar), mostly after a harsh impact such as hitting a deep pothole or another similar stress event. This might lead to a fall or in severe cases also an injury depending on the situation and the environmental conditions you are riding in.

We ask affected customers to stop the use of the bike and to not ride it until they have had the fork checked and fixed by a professional bike mechanic.

The repair will consist of an inspection of the fork steerer tube, a fork replacement if necessary and a preventative reinforcement of the fork steerer tube.

This measure will not affect any functions of the steering assembly, nor will the riding experience be affected.

Only the Speedmax CF with a V21 AEROSTEM is affected. All other Speedmax models are not affected.

We can confirm that we are on course to roll out a full repair program in December, as planned. We will proactively inform affected customers as soon as the repair process starts, including all the details they need to know. Our ambition is to have a repair process that is most convenient. Of course, Canyon will cover the costs of the repair.

We've already released a limited initial quantity of express “non-series” repair kits to keep athletes and supported riders on track for their upcoming race, above all the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Taupo, New Zealand. The non-series parts haven’t the final surface coating and color, but of course do not compromise on performance.

The dedicated repair kit is specifically designed to reinforce the fork shaft: The repair consists of an inspection of the fork steerer tube and a replacement of the fork if it is found to be damaged in the clamping area.

Furthermore, the fork will get a preventative reinforcement around the clamping area of the fork steerer tube. This is done by an aluminium sleeve which gets bonded into the steerer tube and replaces the current expander. Of course, Canyon will cover the costs of the repair.

This measure will not affect any functions of the steering assembly, nor will your riding experience be affected.
