Women’s Gravel Bikes

Canyon women’s gravel bikes are designed to help you make the most of this exciting cycling activity, which combines the fun and adventure of off-road riding with the speed and stability of regular bike lanes. It’s a great way to explore a destination without dealing with road traffic, and this extra level of safety has made gravelling particularly appealing to female cyclists of all levels.

There are a growing number of gravel routes around the world that riders are flocking to in their thousands. They span the spectrum from light, dusty roads to very rough, rocky trails, and you’ll need to pick out a Canyon bike suited to your specific terrain. We’ve also ensured that every model is specifically tailored to meet the needs of female cyclists for improved comfort and optimal performance.

What is a Gravel Bike?

You’ll find that cycling along gravel tracks offers a notably different ride from regular roads, cycle paths, or mountain trails. A good ladies' gravel bike will effectively cover all these different terrain types while also offering the specific performance that gravel demands. As the popularity of gravelling has skyrocketed over the last decade, the number of versatile bikes on the market tailored to the specific needs of this activity has also grown.

Perhaps the main difference between ladies’ gravel bikes and other models for women is their wheelbase. Road bikes generally have a relatively short distance between wheels, enabling tight cornering and fast riding along smooth surfaces. Mountain bikes, on the other hand, have a longer wheelbase to provide the stability that you need to handle uneven surfaces and steep inclines. Gravel bikes are the cycling equivalent of a jack-of-all-trades, with a wheelbase between these two extremes. They also combine the dropped handlebars of a sporty bike with wider tyres and lower gearing, contributing even further to their versatility.

What’s the Difference Between Men’s and Women’s Gravel Bikes?

Although Canyon and many other manufacturers sell women’s gravel bikes and gravel bikes that are specifically designed for men, the truth is that all bikes are technically unisex. However, models aimed at women will have several subtle differences to better suit the specific anatomical variations between many men and women.

The frame of women’s gravel bikes will often have a different structure and size to the men’s version to accommodate size and height disparities between the average man and the average woman. Women tend to be shorter, and the ride height of ladies’ bikes is decreased accordingly, as is the top tube height and the overall frame size.

In addition to this, the handlebars of a ladies’ gravel bike might also be a bit narrower to suit narrower shoulders. The saddle is also slightly different. It will have wider sit bones done to the wider hips of female cyclists. There might also be less pressure in the saddle’s main chamber to allow women to sit without discomfort for more extended periods.

Canyon Gravel Bikes for Women

Canyon has created a wide variety of ladies’ gravel bikes to handle all your gravel riding needs. Models suited to light gravel, heavy gravel, and versatile bikes will cover all terrain types with ease.

Grail Bikes

The Grail range from Canyon is designed for the lightest gravel when you’re only venturing away from the main tarmac paths and roads occasionally and riding on mostly dusty tracks with some small rocks. Grail women’s gravel bikes are a great entry point for those new to gravelling.

Pick out a Grail AL bike for a balance of versatility, affordability, and performance. With seven different sizes available, you can find the perfect fit for your specific anatomy, ensuring maximum comfort and support on the road and the trails. It has a sturdy aluminium frame and chunky Schwalbe G-One Bite tyres for traction.

Another advanced gravel alternative is the Grail:ON e-bike. This model is an electric-powered version of a ladies’ gravel bike. With a punchy, high-torque Bosch Performance Line CX motor providing a little extra boost for distances of up to 120 km, you can go further than you ever thought possible while also traversing more demanding gravel terrain than you might be used to.

Grizl Bikes

The Canyon Grizl range offers more heavy-duty gravel bikes suited to rougher terrain with large rocks and stones. Wider handlebars enable better responsiveness for improved control over tricky, technical trails. The models are also compatible with dropper seat posts, which allow you to shift your weight over the rear wheel for better balance and stability. This is particularly useful for steep descents.

Try the Grizl CF SL if you plan to make the most of gravel paths and off-road exploration. It can take tyres up to 50 mm in width to help you handle the most challenging rides and has RockShox Rudy front suspension for extra comfort and control. The Anything Cage mounts on both sides allows you to carry more equipment and supplies for long-distance or multi-stage gravelling adventures.

If you still haven’t decided whether you need a women’s gravel bike from the Grail or Grizl ranges, take a look at our in-depth Grail vs. Grizl guide.
