“I want to do well and show my daughter that you can still do great things when things are hard and life is really busy.”
Troy Brosnan - Canyon CLLCTV

From prodigy to team leader

Growing up in Adelaide, Western Australia, Troy loved bikes as far back as he can remember. “I started riding bikes when I was super young at the BMX track, I had to get pushed up the jumps by my Mum and my Dad. Then I got into downhill when I was 13 and made my first trip over to Whistler in 2009, and it all took off from there. I rode some races at Crankworx and started getting noticed by some teams and ended up riding my first World Cup in 2010."
In those early years he raced alongside some of the sport’s greats. During his junior years he was teammates with Australian DH legend and 3-time DH world champion, Sam Hill as he shattered the French dominance of the sport. Later as a young elite racer he was partnered with 5-time World Cup overall winner, Aaron Gwin. While there was a lot to learn, a talent like Troy was always was always going to need his own programme. In 2017 he found that when he signed with Canyon to lead our newly-formed downhill team.

Designed to win

As a key part of our downhill programme for so long, it is only natural that Troy was at the heart of developing the new Sender race bike. "The new prototype Sender works so well, we’ve been working on it for years now which has given us loads of time to fine tune the smallest details. Everything from how and where the mud collects and what that does to the weight of the bike has been well thought out."
Consistency is one of the main things Troy looks for in his race bike, preferring to focus on his riding rather than dialling in the bike each weekend as much as possible. ”I don't change my setup much based on the weather, it works great in the wet. I really like to be in control of how the bike feels, so there was a lot of back and forth to get it just right.”

Always in the race

Troy Brosnan’s World Cup record speaks for itself: 93 starts, only nine finishes outside the top 20, and 37 podiums- a level of consistency never seen before in elite downhill racing. With his incredible speed and drive, Troy is focused on adding to his current tally of four World Cup wins.

Fatherhood

During the summer of 2024, Troy became a father. In gravity sports, parenthood can be a delicate moment for athletes. Some begin to feel the risk more keenly, they worry about coming home safely to their families each weekend. Others take it is extra motivation, they want to win for their families and show their kids what is possible. After missing the middle part of this season to be at home for the birth of his daughter, Troy proved that he is among the latter group. He closed the season in epic fashion, winning the final race in Mont Saint Anne, Canada with a stunning show of speed and control on one of the hardest tracks of the year.
“It was a bit surreal in a way, I knew I could do it, but we had just had a kid and I hadn't trained much, but I've ridden Mont Saint Anne in almost every condition so I knew that you could still go fast in the wet there. And I had nothing to lose, so I just went for it. It's been difficult to be overseas at this stage, because you just want to spend time with your kid and watch them grow up, but there's a lot of training that needs to be done too. It motivates me, I want to do well and show her that you can still do great things when things are hard and life is really busy.”
