Aero bikes feature a wider, streamlined frame profile, designed to slip through the air.
An aero bike has 2 main properties. 1, to reduce aerodynamic drag, the greatest force a cyclist must overcome and 2, to transfer as much power from the rider to the bike.
Historically, aero bikes have been heavy due to the wider frame profile and featured an aggressive geometry, to keep the rider as low and aerodynamic as possible.
Advances in carbon engineering have seen a reduction in aero bike weight in the past seasons, with many Pro builds now coming closer than ever to to elusive 6.8 kg UCI weight limit.
The new Aeroad also features a balanced geometry, meaning riders no long have to sacrifice comfort for speed.
-
-
-
If you typically ride more than 14 km/h, then yes, you need an aero bike.
Aerodynamic drag is the biggest resistance in cycling. From just 14 km/h on the flat it is the greatest force a rider has to overcome, trumping weight or rolling resistance. Beyond that, the power required to overcome aerodynamic drag increases greatly the faster you ride.
Historially, the long and low geometry of an aero bike has been offputting to recreational road cyclists. The new aeroad features a balanced geometry, making the speedy efficiency of an Aeroad more accessible for everyone.

The 4iiii powermeters Podiiiium, Precision and Precision Pro usually have a distance of 80mm from the centre of the pod to the BB-axis. This distance would lead to bottlenecks and possible consequential damage or malfunctions on most Canyon road bikes. To prevent this, we have developed a custom version: The 4iiii Precision Custom Powermeter, which is already installed on corresponding bikes during production. For our Canyon bikes we need a distance of 120mm instead of 80mm to avoid narrow spots.
The retrofitting of standard 4iiii powermeters is usually not approved by us. In individual cases it may be that the standard version fits, but in principle this is not the case, so we offer a separate solution.

Do you have questions about the new Aeroad, how to set it up or what kind of modifications are possible? All service information about the new Aeroad can be found here.

On Aeroad CF SL models which do not feature full integration, swapping out the cockpit is possible to any other system, provided the stem is compatible with a 1 ¼” steerer. On Aeroad CF SLX and CFR models which feature full integration, this is a proprietary system that enables simple cockpit height and width adjustment. Stem length on each size is carefully selected using our extensive PPS data and, in our experience, is the correct length for most riders.

-
-
Triathlon extensions are not currently compatible on the new Aeroad.
-
-
-
160 mm is the maximum rotor size, which come as standard on all but the smallest sizes. It is possible to downsize to a 140 mm rotor as well.
-
-
-
All new Aeroads come equipped with saddles with round rails and saddle clamps for round rails. Should you wish to swap for a saddle with oval rails, we offer an adapter for oval rails in our webshop.

-
The new Aeroad comes equipped as standard with 52/36 chainrings on all 700C sizes, and with a compact 50/34 on 650B sizes on Aeroad CF SL models. It’s possible to fit a compact chainset on any Aeroad. The maximum compatible chainring size is 54-tooth.
-
-
-
As on any road bike, oval chainrings are compatible with the Aeroad, however here we recommend setup from an experienced mechanic to avoid any shifting issues.
-
-
-
The new Aeroad features increased tyre clearance over its predecessor. The maximum tyre size possible is 30 mm for both front and rear.
-
-
-
The maximum cassette size depends on what groupset your Aeroad has. For SRAM Force and RED AXS groupsets the maximum cassette size is 33-tooth. For Shimano-equipped Aeroads the maximum cassette size is 30-tooth.
-
-
-
The latest generation of Aeroads have a 9mm higher stack and 5mm shorter reach in a size M, which when measured at the cockpit results in a riding position that mirrors that of the Ultimate. With the new Aeroad a key goal was to open up the benefits of the best aerodynamic performance to even more riders.
-
-
-
Improving aerodynamic performance was the key goal in the development of the new Aeroad, which required months of intensive Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis. During final validation in the wind tunnel we gathered the results against the previous Aeroad CF SLX, simulating a speed of 45 km/h and yaw angles between +/- 0° – 20°. With the bike alone we measured an improvement of -7.4 watts over the previous Aeroad. With our leg dummy we measured an improvement of -4.4 watts. With our leg dummy and 2 bottles we measured an improvement of -5.4 watts. The previous Aeroad was already an aero benchmark for years, and the new Aeroad is even faster still.
-
-
-
Spacers on the new Canyon Aeroad are proprietary parts designed to match the form of the cockpit and provide a solid interface with the frame. We do not recommend using different spacers to the ones delivered with your bike.
-
-
-
The maximum system weight for the bike, including rider, is 100 kg for the Aeroad.

Yes, carbon advances have reduced the weight of aero bikes making them lighter, and more efficient for climbing.
How?
More complex tube profiles have historically made aero bikes heavier and less efficient than lightweight climbing bikes such as the Ultimate CF SLX.
Advances in carbon engineering have enabled engineers to dramatically reduce the weight of the Aeroad CFR while simultaneously improving aerodynamoics.
The introduction of the Toray M40X carbon fibre has even further reduced the weight of World Tour aero bikes, bringing them within reach of the UCI weight limit of 6.8 kg.
-
-
-
The Aeroad CF SL and CF SLX share the same frame design and components like the new, more comfortable seatpost.
All Aeroad CF SL models are equipped with mechanical groupsets.
In addition, the CF SL features the CP0010 aero cockpit with exposed cables. The Aeroad CF SLX cockpit features innovative height and width adjustability not available on the CP0010.
-
-
-
The Aeroad CFR utilises a rare carbon fibre, named Toray M40X, which allows us to create an exceptionally light and stiff aero bike.
The Aeroad CF SLX is heavier yet still features enhanced aerodynamics and the innovative adjustable cockpit.
The Aeroad CFR also features similar groupsets and wheelsets ridden by pro athletes.
-
-
-
The new Aeroad CF SL features a brand-new, benchmark-setting frame desiged in collaboration with F1 experts Swiss Side.
The new frame is more aerodynamic, stiffer and lighter than the previous model.
-
-
-
CFR stands for Canyon Factory Racing, and is a selection of bikes built for pro athletes.
The Aeroad CFR is a Grand Tour aero bike designed and built to be exceptionally light with benchmark aerodynamic performance. It uses the same components favoured by Grand Tour athletes.
We make only a small number of Aeroad CFR bikes available to our customers every season.

25 mm at the front for aero gains. 28 mm at the rear for comfort and traction.
-
-
-
There’s space for up to 38 mm tyres on the Inflite.
-
-
-
A bike’s aero performance is strongly dependent on what equipment is fitted and direction of the air currents flowing over it. The new Speedmax CF CFR is ~ 9 watts more efficient than its predecessor, the 2019 facelift version of the Speedmax CF SLX.

No, when designing the packaging we ensured that everything's intuitive, and that it’s possible to assemble the bike in a few easy steps. If you follow the main steps in the manual, you’ll be riding in no time at all.

In cooperation with the renowned bike fitting team at gebiomized we followed a long-lasting trend in the triathlon scene. Shorter cranks open up biomechanical optimisation of the seating position and related performance improvements, especially in triathlon. We always try to incorporate the latest findings from the market and research into our specifications, so that you, the customer, get the maximum benefit from our products.
