What makes mountain bikes with aluminum frames so special
Gone are the days of lugging a heavy steel mountain bike around your favourite trails. State-of-the-art aluminum alloys give Canyon mountain bikes their unique riding characteristics.
Thanks to great expertise, high performance mountain bikes are created by welding, bending and hydroforming. The frames have thin walls and are lightweight. With every turn of the crank, aluminum frames have excellent rigidity for fast riding. In addition, they’re comfortable to ride.
Bikes like the Grand Canyon are designed to be durable and reliable mountain bikes for off-road adventures. Finely graded shifting, hydraulic disc brakes and robust wheels complete the setup. An MTB with an aluminum frame offers customers excellent value for money.
Carbon versus aluminum MTB
If you have a smaller budget, an aluminum mountain bike from Canyon is the right choice. A high quality aluminum mountain bike offers both beginners and advanced MTB riders impressive performance.
Carbon is a high-tech material that has a number of special features. The weight is not the decisive factor when deciding between an aluminum or carbon MTB. For years, our engineers have been working on solutions for light aluminum frames that are barely heavier than our carbon models.
In terms of riding comfort, a carbon frame absorbs more shocks on the trails creating a smoother ride experience. However, well-manufactured aluminum keeps up and makes aluminum mountain bikes experts on every terrain.
Hardtail or full-suspension: advantages and disadvantages
Before you buy an aluminum mountain bike, you are faced with a choice: full-suspension or hardtail?
- Hardtail: Ein Hardtail mountain bike A hardtail mountain bike has a suspension fork on the front wheel. Hardtails are the archetype of mountain bikes. The rigid aluminum frame without rear suspension ensures that you bring maximum propulsion to the ground with every pedal stroke. With a solid rear triangle, no energy is wasted. Further advantages include how useful they are for everyday riding and the low maintenance costs.
- Full-suspension: Ein Full-suspension mountain bikes have suspension in the fork and also in the rear triangle. Compared to a similarly equipped full-suspension bike, hardtails are lighter and cheaper. A full-suspension aluminum bike does however open up many more trails when you’re riding. You’ll have traction and comfort over much more technical terrain.
Full-suspension or hardtail: which is best for me?
If you’re looking for a light mountain bike that is suitable for everyday use, an aluminum hardtail mountain bike is a good choice. This also applies if you are out and about in moderate terrain or on paved forest and gravel trails. In this case, the built-in suspension fork offers excellent riding comfort. For fast descents, narrow trails and thrill in the bike park, a full-suspension mountain bike is the better choice.
What types of mountain bikes are there?
Canyon has the right MTB model for every purpose. From enduro and trail MTBs, to cross-country or downhill mountain bikes to electric mountain bikes with aluminum frames, no stone is left unturned. What’s the difference between all the bike types?
Enduro
Bikes like the Canyon Spectral 29 AL 6 are similar in concept to motocross bikes. They are ideal racing machines for everyone who likes to ride downhill a lot.
Trail
Trail MTBs are versatile all-rounders. They are available as hardtails and full-suspension bikes. They promise good power transmission when climbing and great riding on fun trails and fast descents.
Downhill
Jumps, drops and gaps – this is the world of downhill mountain bikes. Full-suspension bikes are adjusted to the extreme requirements thanks to their long travel and adapted frame geometry.
Cross Country
Cross-country hardtails are defined by their low weight, optimal power transmission and sporty seating position. They are multi-talented for everyday use and leisure. The full-suspension bikes are ideal for racing.
E-MTB
Do you enjoy nature and want to climb steep mountains? The built-in tailwin of an electric mountain bike makes this possible thanks to the powerful electric motor. The additional power supports you when pedalling. Don’t forget, you will still improve your fitness and strength while riding an E-MTB.
