Is there a difference between women’s road bikes and men’s road bikes?

The main differences between unisex models and road bikes for women are in the frame. To accommodate the height and anatomical variations between the average man and the average woman, the frame of a ladies’ bike will have a slightly different structure and size. The overall frame will be slightly smaller on a women’s model than on a man’s bike, and the top tube is also likely to be a little shorter. You might also find that the handlebars are a bit less wide to suit narrower shoulders. Another difference is in the saddle. A women’s road bike will have wider sit bones for wider hips. There might also be less pressure in the saddle’s main chamber to allow women to sit more comfortably.

There’s no reason to expect women to perform any differently from men on the road, and all road bikes are technically unisex models, so anyone can saddle up and ride them. However, there are a variety of ladies' road bikes available, specifically designed to meet the needs of female cyclists.

Which is the best women’s road bike?

If you want a women’s road bike that’s fast, agile, sturdy, and perfectly tailored to your body type, you’re spoilt for choice right now. The women’s bike market has exploded in recent years, and there is a wide range of designs available to suit the way you ride. Are you trying to get your sprint times down as low as possible? More into long-distance courses? Take a look at the different categories of road bikes for women to understand which model will help you get the support and performance you need.

Aero road bikes for women

The Aero road bike takes its name from aerodynamics, as these models use aerodynamic principles in their design. They’re engineered to shave those precious milliseconds off your race times by reducing air resistance as much as possible.

Created with techniques usually reserved for developing Formula 1 cars, the Aeroad model is one of Canyon’s most impressive Aero road bikes for women. It’s moulded precisely into a highly streamlined structure, and its supremely stiff construction contributes further to minimising drag. We’ve tested it extensively in wind tunnels and used advanced computer simulations to get optimal performance.

Endurance road bikes for women

This sub-category of ladies’ road bikes is built for going the distance rapidly and reliably. Highly durable tyres are a crucial part of their design. You’ll usually find that their seating positions are as comfortable as possible, so you can keep cycling without losing your cool.

Pick out a model from Canyon’s Endurance bike range for a great long-distance road cycling experience. Their tyres can transition between rough gravel, smooth asphalt, and other types of road with ease.

These models have a precise geometry that balances comfort, speed, and handling, so you can compete with some of the world’s best cyclists out on the road or smash your records.
