The Netherlands on an E-bike

The Netherlands is a real cycling country, that may be clear. Although there are many beautiful routes through nature in the Netherlands, less attention is paid to exploring cities by bicycle. The Netherlands has many beautiful cities that are perfect for exploring by e-bike. Let’s have a look at some of them.

The Netherlands on an E-bike

E-biking ''Rondje Eindhoven’’

The city of lights is ideal to explore by bike! Eindhoven is the greenest of all the big cities in the Netherlands and also rich in places of interest, in short: perfect for a bicycle tour. A good route for this is the so-called ''Rondje Eindhoven'', a route that highlights all the best sights of Eindhoven. The route starts at the Central Station and takes you around the iconic working class neighbourhoods that were built by industrialists such as Philips and DAF. Despite the industrial surroundings, these neighbourhoods pack in an abundance of nature and beautiful parks.

The perfect Amsterdam experience on an E-bike

Amsterdam is the Dutch cycling capital, not necessarily because of its infrastructure but because of critical mass: Amsterdam has 881.000 bicycles, which is more bicycles than inhabitants! In addition, Amsterdam is rich in places of interest that are easily reached by bike. Cars are increasingly banned from the city centre, giving cyclists more space. Amsterdam is a beautiful historic city with iconic canals and magnificent buildings such as the Rijksmuseum and the Palace on the Dam.

Always tailwind with an E-bike in Rotterdam

The port city of Rotterdam has paid a lot of attention to cyclists in recent years, making it very suitable for e-bikes. Besides the ports, the city by the River Maas is known for its innovative architecture, such as the Erasmus Bridge and the Cube Houses. This is definitely worth seeing and you should definitely cross the famous Erasmus Bridge if you find yourself in Rotterdam.

Rotterdam also has a lot of street art and other art in public spaces including some from famous artists such as Picasso.

Canals & nature: E-biking through Utrecht

Voted Best Bike City in the World in 2019, Utrecht is perfect for a wonderful trip on the e-bike. With hundreds of kilometres of wide bike lanes and plenty of opportunity to store your bike safely, you can take your time and explore the beautiful surroundings of Utrecht.

Just like Amsterdam, the city center is punctuated with canals, but the wharf cellars are really what define Utrecht as a must-travel destination. When the sun shines, these are filled with lovely terraces: ideal for a mid-ride break. Top highlights of Utrecht include the Dom in the city centre and Máximapark in Leidsche Rijn.

E-biking in Nijmegen? Absolutely!

The city on the River Waal is the last but by no means least in this list of ideal cycling cities. Nijmegen is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands and has existed for over 2000 years.

Nijmegen is known for its parks and is located in a green area between two rivers, the Maas on the southern side and the Waal on the northern side. In between you can enjoy cycling over the dikes and you are only a few kilometres away from the German border. Nijmegen features quite a few ''sloping'' hills but with an e-bike, you’re sure to conquer them without breaking a sweat.
