Watch now on GCN+: Canyon - The Inside Story
Find out what it takes to build a global bike brand with the new behind-the-scenes documentary from GCN.
When a teenage boy suddenly loses his father and is left with a small bike business, there’s only one thing to do. Find out how Canyon founder Roman Arnold went from selling from the back of a trailer to building an internationally recognised global brand over the course of 30 years.
In the new GCN documentary launched on Tuesday 4 October, host Simon Richardson makes the trip to our company headquarters to speak to key employees around the business who know Canyon inside out. With exclusive access to our engineers, designers and founder Roman Arnold, the team at GCN bring the Canyon story to life.
Throughout the 48-minute documentary, Simon Richardson interviews some of the people behind our most famous bikes. Chief Technology Officer Michael Kaiser allows the team to explore the back catalogue of bikes on which Canyon made its name. Feast your eyes on the first edition Canyon Ultimate (then named the F10) as Michael explains the innovative engineering techniques that led to the lightest road bike in the world (3.8kg).
The evolution of the Ultimate is a key storyline in the documentary. Simon takes a unique look at Cadel Evans’ world championship winning road bike that took him to an historic win. And it was that victory that catapulted the bike into the public eye.
While it’s nice to dwell on Canyon’s humble beginnings, the documentary sheds light on the hard work of our Canyon Crew. What may have begun with Roman Arnold and his family continues today under the guidance of over 1,400 employees worldwide.
It’s not just the input of our in-house experts that bring our bikes to life, but also feedback from the likes of Mathieu van der Poel, Tahnee Seagrave and Jan Frodeno. These three world-class athletes provide feedback from the highest levels of the sport that help us create the best bikes in the world — across every discipline.
The team at GCN visit Canyon’s showroom, factory and service course to give viewers at home an idea of the scale of our operations at HQ.
