Canyon celebrates World Championships gold rush
Across 44 events, Canyon scooped 12 gold medals and recorded 23 podium places. Here, we celebrate the success of an historic World Championships.
Whilst there is no official manufacturers’ competition in cycling’s World Championships, the collective results of Canyon athletes in Scotland have left the company in no doubt about the value professional sports performance brings towards product innovation.
For eleven days, the cycling world looked to Scotland, where the first-ever multi-disciplinary UCI World Championships took place with more than 2,600 athletes competing in over 200 events.
In just 44 of those events, Canyon athletes notched up a haul of 12 gold medals in Road, Time Trial, Cross Country, Marathon, Downhill and Track-Pursuit events and altogether recorded 23 podium places. Although disciplines such as BMX, Trials, Indoor Cycling and other Track competitions aren’t included in that list, the medal tally puts Canyon unofficially at the top of the list for the many of blue riband events, a testament to Canyon’s commitment to innovation and performance.
In mountain bike competitions, Canyon’s Lux World Cup and Sender CFR helped secure three gold medals. Whilst in road and track competitions, the Aeroad CFR and the new Speedmax CFR Track, which was developed with input from Chloe Dygert, bettered that with nine gold medals.

Innovation has been part of Canyon’s DNA since the founding of the company in 2002 and has been coupled with athletic developments since its pro sports program started in 2007. Canyon’s commitment to innovation continues to be strengthened with the creation of an Innovation Lab at the company’s Koblenz headquarters.
Road: Wins for Dygert, Niedermaier and Chabbey on the Speedmax, and van der Poel, Philipsen and Ten Argiles on the Aeroad
With a victory that crushed the competition, Chloe Dygert (US) took a commanding victory in the Women’s Individual Time Trial on her Speedmax CFR. But not to be outdone by their CANYON//SRAM Racing teammate, Antonia Niedermaier (DE) was the fastest U23 rider to cross the line, claiming the U23 Time Trial World Champion title, and Elise Chabbey was part of the winning Swiss Mixed Relay Team Time Trial.
Claiming an almost universally-popular victory, Mathieu van der Poel (NL) won the Men’s Road Race title with a 22km solo break aboard his Canyon Aeroad CFR, giving him a historic double together with the World Cyclocross title, which he won in February 2023.
The Junior Men’s Road Race saw Canyon Factory Racing Cross-Country rider Albert Philipsen (DK) with his arms in the air, picking up the title with a similarly impressive solo break, adding to the World and European cross-country mountain bike titles and Danish national cyclo-cross, road race and time trial titles already to his name.
And finally, with a customised Aeroad, para-cyclist Ricardo Ten Argiles’ stunning ride saw him take gold in the Individual Time Trial C1 class.
MTB: Kiefer wins on the Sender, Gaze and Philipsen get gold on the Lux World Cup
At the Downhill course in Fort William, Canyon Factory Racing rider Henri Kiefer (DE) had a storming run on his Canyon Sender CFR to pick up the Junior DH World Championship title, becoming the first German DH champion in the process. Henri’s victory is especially poignant because he has been supported by Canyon since the age of 12.
Meanwhile, at the Cross-Country course in Glentress, Canyon’s Lux World Cup was in action. Sam Gaze (NZ) of Alpecin–Deceuninck powered the Lux to victory in the Men’s Short Course XCC competition, and Albert Philipsen doubled down on gold with victory in the Junior XCO competition.
Track: Fastest bike in the world for the fastest riders in the world
Last but by no means least, the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome was the location for Canyon’s Speedmax CFR Track bike to break cover. This 20,000 EUR speed-machine, the fastest bike in Canyon’s portfolio, helped Chloe Dygert cut through the air towards her Individual Pursuit World Championship title. In the men’s race Team Denmark used the same bike to take the Team Pursuit World Champion title, cementing Canyon’s claim to have created the fastest track bike in the world.
More successes to celebrate
Of course, it’s not just about crossing the line first. Canyon values and celebrates the performances of all athletes. Notable mentions go out to Puck Pieterse (NL), Loana Lacomte (FR), Line Burquier (FR), Sam Gaze (NZ) and Martin Stosek (CZ) for their MTB silver medals, and to Christina Schweinberger (AT), Ricarda Bauerfeind (DE) and Julie de Wilde (NL) for bronze medals.
These latest victories, plus the Gravel and Cyclocross world championship colours currently worn by Canyon athletes, means that there are now 14 Canyon athletes wearing the World Championships rainbow stripes.
