Hardtail Mountain Bike

Carbon or aluminum hardtails are the perfect choice both for relaxed rides out in nature, and emptying the tank with big, all-out efforts. They are equally suited for beginners and experienced mountain bikers alike. Low-intensity spin or high-intensity all-action ride – you decide.

Buying a hardtail MTB

Are you looking for the smoothest ride without compromising on speed? A hardtail bike is the ultimate MTB. As ideal for pedaling effortlessly up steep hills as it is for racing down mountain trails, it’s no wonder professionals favor the versatility of a hardtail. Aluminum or carbon, electric motor or not, you’ll fall in love with this bike in no time!

What characterizes a hardtail MTB?

When buying a mountain bike, you have a choice to make. Do you go for a hardtail or a full-suspension bike? This is when understanding a bit about mountain bikes comes in handy.

While full-suspension bikes are doubly supplied with suspension in the front and rear, hardtails – as the name suggests – are only equipped with suspension in the front. This means hardtails are less comfortable overall but excel in tighter trails and rapid maneuvers. Extreme trails, jumps, and downhill slopes are all expertly managed by hardtail bikes. That said, technically demanding courses are better suited to full-suspension bikes.

Thanks to their chunky tires and a wide range of gears, hardtails are suitable for a range of different terrains. The fixed rear triangle also provides exceptional acceleration on mountain tracks. Some of our hardtail MTBs have 27.5 inch wheels, whereas others are fitted with 29 inch wheels.

The benefits of hardtail MTBs

Easy upkeep, versatility, lightweight, powerful uphill acceleration, and affordable: the best hardtail mountain bike is one that exhibits all these properties. Hardtails are perfect for MTB rookies and professionals alike. You can climb hills effortlessly with reduced weight and adequate suspension gives you more control on tighter trails.

Hardtails have no complex suspension tech in the rear, making them far lighter than their full-suspension counterparts. It also means hardtails require far less maintenance and are cheaper as a result. They provide a world of benefits for beginners, but pros also count on hardtail MTBs to see them through tough terrain and cross-country courses.

Refine your riding technique with a hardtail MTB from Canyon. Any one of our bikes offers incredible control in tight areas, ideal for riding technical trails with minimal physical effort.

Aluminum or carbon?

Both materials have different pros and cons, so it’s entirely up to you which one you go for. A hardtail MTB frame made from carbon offers greater precision in your movement and is more lightweight than an aluminum frame. However, aluminum is a more durable material and is more cost-effective.

Each type of frame feels different when riding, too, but this just comes down to personal preference. As such, it’s hard to definitively say which material is better. Ultimately, it will all depend on your individual tastes and budget.

Hardtail e-MTB

Choosing between a regular MTB or an e-MTB is just another step you must consider before buying a hardtail. Canyon e-MTBs, such as the Grand Canyon:ON hardtail, benefit from powerful Shimano motors. These quadruple your pedaling power and give you more endurance on your bike rides. Not only can you go for longer, you’ll also be much more comfortable and have more control on long, demanding trails.

Incredible versatility with hardtail MTBs

At Canyon, you’ll find the perfect hardtail MTB for every situation. Our bikes are just as suitable for beginners as they are for ambitious athletes.
